Another Federal election is just around the corner and this time around, all 3 major parties are promising to do something about housing affordability. All 3 are pledging to build millions of new homes... not sure how they will be able to do this in the City of Vancouver with all our restrictions in new construction. I think of all the campaign promises it’s the Conservatives who have the most tangible and realistic plan. If elected they are promising to remove the mortgage stress test which would have an immediate increase on affordability especially in a market like Vancouver. They also want to introduce and study longer term fixed mortgages 10-15, perhaps 20 year fixed like they have in the US.
