The NDP Government has painted themselves into a corner with their new BC speculation tax. Currently there are 1000’s of units that are not being occupied more than 6 months out of the year by the owner. However, because of rental restrictions by their strata they are not able to rent the unit out. For now they are exempt from the tax but that might be changing. Currently the NDP is looking into changing the strata property act and removing rental restrictions on all buildings in the lower mainland. I also discuss the City of Vancouver giving a small reduction in taxes to commercial property owners but passing that onto the residential owners.
